˜ The Journey Begins

-- T h is walkthrough will work for the Nintendo ® and Playstation ® versions of the game. The names of characters and towns have been changed in the Playstation version. The names used in this walkthrough are those from the original Nintendo game.

-- As always, remember to SAVE often.

-- This game from Square added a new twist to RPG gaming by giving you the option of four people on your team. This also makes the game more challenging. Having to buy certain weapons and armor for different characters can become quite confusing. The team that I found to work the best is to have a Fighter, W. Mage, B. Mage, and B. Belt. with this team not only do you have excellent magic abilities you also have superb fighting abilities.

-- Items are color coated for certain characters to have.

Fighter Black Belt White Mage Black Mage

--- Castle Coneria ----

-- When you start out, go to the castle. There you need to talk to the king. The king is on the second floor of the castle. The king asks of you a favor, to save his daugter from Garland.

-- Also TALK to everyone in the castle. The information that the people give you will be needed later in the game. The doors on the ground level are locked. In order to unlock the doors you will need a key. But not any ordinary key will do. Talk to the wise man northeast of the vaults, he will tell you where to get the special key.

-- Before heading off for the key, you will need to gain levels and save Princess Sara . So you will need to purchase some weapons and armor.

---- Coneria Town ----

-- The town is located in the same vacinity of the castle. There you can purchase weapons, armor, items, and learn a few spells.

-- After you have bought you some weapons go out and fight a little bit and earn more money to buy some armor. When hit points are low head back into town and spend the night at the Inn.

-- Below is a shopping list you might want to fulfill before you leave.

- Fighter: Rapier, Wooden Armor

- B. Belt: Wooden Nunchuku, Wooden Armor

- White Mage: Cure, Harm,Wooden Staff, Cloth

- Black Mage: Fire, Lit, Wooden Staff, Cloth

-- It would also be good to purchase some heal potion and possibly a tent. Before you leave town go to then INN and SAVE your game.

---- Temple of Fiends ----

-- Once on level 4 (to be safe) head to the Temple of Fiends. Be sure that you have full HP and MP.

-- In the temple you can explore a little but get to hasty and foget why you are here. There are a few treasures that you can get right now, they are located to the SW and NW. The treasures are in rooms with doors, doors that you don't need a key to open. One of the chests contains a Cap be sure to equip it immediately.

-- Back to the reason why you are here. After entering go straight ahead through the door in front of you. There awaits Garland. Once you have talked to him you are immedietly forced into battle. So before speaking to him make sure everyone has full HP and MP.

-- While fighting Garland have your Fighter and B. Belt attack and have your B. Mage use Fire. Your W. Mage plays two roles in this battle. One as a healer and Two as a fighter. Heal the wounded by having your W. Mage casting Cure or by using a potion. After a few rounds Garland will be defeated and the Princess will be saved. "And what is up with that ORB???"

----Castle Coneria Revisited ----

-- Upon returning to the castle the King will greet you and for your courage for defeating Garland he will have a bridge made for you to pass the gap to the other part of the world.

---- The Old Witch ----

--After exiting the Castle go straight to the North there you will see the bridge that the King has made for you. Once you cross the bridge a small video scene appears. Now head north follow the Western shore line until you see a cave. Inside the cave dwells a lonely ol' witch and her live brooms.

-- Talk to the witch. She tells you of a nasty prince who has stolen her crystal which enables her to see. She asks of you a favor, to find her crystal. Before you leave talk to one of the brooms and be sure to check out the vases.

-- The Evil Prince lives near Elfland, on the other side of the ocean to the south of Corneria Castle. As of now it is impossible to get down there. However a town called Pravoka.

---- Pravoka ----

-- Pravoka is located to the SouthEast of the cave across a large forest. Along the way be sure to gain levels for the up coming event.

-- Where is everybody? Truth is that a band of pirates has terrorized to town and the people had fled indoors for safety. Bikke, the leader of the gang is in the upper left corner of town. Before fighting the pirates, stock up on items and learn a few new magic spells.

-- Eventhough nobody is out and about you can still do some shopping. The armor shop carries the Iron Armor which would be a good item to have if you can spare 800 gold for it though. The weapon shop carries the Hand Axe which is the best weapon thus far for 550 gold. There are some new spells to learn also.

- Fighter: Short Sword, Wooden Shield, Iron Armor, Gloves

- B. Belt: Gloves

- White Mage: Mute, Alit, Invs, Gloves

- Black Mage: Ice, Slow, Gloves

-- Fighting the Pirates can be a tough battle if you are not properly equiped for battle. Each pirate has 6 HP a piece. This may not seem like much, but when there are nine pirates that you are fighting the numbers add up. Winning the battle gets you the ship . With the ship you can go to your destination: Elfland . The ship may grant you access to other lands, the ocean is just as safe as the mainland.

---- Elfland ----

-- Elfland is south of Coneria. On your way however you might want to stop in Coneria to rest up and purchase a few things.

-- The area around the town is full of new and old enemies. so be sure to be properly equiped. This is also a good place to gain levels and earn a bit of gold for some of the better weapons for instance the Silver Sword is a whopping four grand.

-- First things first, head to the castle and look for the prince. As it turns out the prince has become a sleeping beauty. As you talk to the people in the castle you realize that he is not the one who stole Matoya's Crystal . Instead it was the Dark Elf Astos who stole the crystal. In order to wake th prince you will need the Herb which Matoya has and will not give it to you until she gets back her crystal. However Astos will not give you the crystal until he has the Crown which is in the Marsh Cave .

-- Before leaving you will need to get a few things. The Silver Hammer and the Copper Gauntlet which are in the castle.

- Fighter: Silver Sword, Iron Shield, Wooden Helmet, Copper Bracelet

- B. Belt: Copper Bracelet

-W. Mage: Cur2, Afir, Pure, Aice, Copper Bracelet, Silver Hammer (castle)

- B. Mage: Fir2, Lit2, Fast, Ice2, Large Dagger, Copper Bracelet

-- Remember the key that one of the guards was talking about in the Castle Coneria. Well the key is here in Elfland. In order to get it though you will need to wake the Prince.
